Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25, 1994 born on May 25, 1994, is an American retired artistic gymnast. She has also been a two-time Olympian. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. She received the gold medal in the team competitions during the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas as her teammate also was awarded gold. Raisman received silver medals for the all-around individual and floor exercise. Raisman also received silver medals in the individual all-around as well as for floor exercise. She has also been two-time champion in the national championships on floor exercise (2012, 2015) she was the 2012 national champion on balance beam and she has won five medals in the all-around competition at the national championships (silver in 2016, bronze in 2011 and 2012, and in 2015). In 2013, she was admitted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber and was an ex-high school gymnast and Rick Raisman, on May 25 1994, in Needham. There are three sisters younger than her: Madison, Chloe, and Brett. Raisman is Jewish, and has said, "I take a lot of pride in being able to not just represent the U.S.A as well as the Jewish community throughout the world. Raisman started gymnastics at 18 months. She attributes her early passion for the sport to the "Magnificent Seven", a U.S. women's gymnastics team who won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She was a student at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing until the level of 8. Then she joined Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club with coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman has graduated from Needham High School, 2012, after finishing her senior year via online classes and training for the Olympics.
